About This Space
I’m heading to California for a couple weeks and would love someone to enjoy this space. I know how hard it can be to find a quiet creative space outside of tourist central, and would love to provide a little bit of that for someone this fall. Plus it's during Mardi Gras season so you check out a ton of parades while you're here.
It's not a shotgun! Downstairs there's a front porch, an open living and dining room, and then the kitchen in the back, and upstairs are 2 bedrooms with doors and the bathroom. With windows in every room, including bathroom and kitchen, this apartment is naturally lit all day -- super bright upstairs and a nice indirect light downstairs. This house was built in 1901 so it has a few quirks, namely slanted original wood floors and there's a couple steps that are slightly taller than the others. Weird, but true. But everything's in good working order.
And it's colorful! I'm an artist and I thrive in a colorful space. If you're looking for all white, then this isn't it. Check out the photos. Each room has its own character, but it's not over the top. Well, maybe the blue dining room is, but I think it's perfect for being deep in your thoughts, dinner parties and selfies.
The main bedroom is a very relaxing monochrome room and has a very comfy full-size mattress with terracotta sheets. Please don't miss the sunset from this room. It's so golden and gorgeous, and if you manage to be stressed in New Orleans, it'll wipe all that away.
I currently have the second room set up as a creative studio with an extra large wood table (to spread out all your ideas) and a standing table on wheels (for when you need to walk around a project). You can use it similarly, or pull out the queen-size air mattress with the memory foam pillow topper (cheat code, y'all) and use the room as a second bedroom.
The bathroom has a clawfoot tub and a beautiful bird of paradise plant. It's also chartreuse.
Small, bright kitchen with good knives and lots of spices opens up to private back courtyard with plants and seating starting early mornings and into the night (the weather this time of year is hot, but not scalding yet!). Out back is a washer and dryer that you'll share with Lori, the next door neighbor.
There's really powerful central AC/heat upstairs, downstairs has a gas heater and ceiling fans throughout the house to get a nice cross breeze going. Average temps in New Orleans in November are highs of 85° and lows 68° so you'll likely want the fans on.
Only 3 short blocks to the Bayou at Orleans Ave in a quiet neighborhood, there's a park with a huge weeping willow on the next block over, and the Lafitte Greenway, where you like walk, bike, play sports, day drink, etc only a few blocks away. Thursday afternoon is the farmers market. In the other direction is gorgeous Bayou St. John neighborhood, perfect for oak-tree lined streets, architectural strolls, great restaurants, Canseco's grocery store and more. This area is super bike friendly (watch out for potholes) and check out Blue Bikes, e-bikes that let you get around town without sweating and they're super cheap too. There's always street parking out front. And if you must go to the French Quarter :) it's only a 7 minute drive.
$450 per week. Includes utilities and internet. Would ideally like to sublet to one person/group the entire time, but I'm flexible, so just let me know your ideal dates. Come by or let's do a video tour, and I'll answer any questions you may have.
